Dziki Warszawa faced Weegree AZS Politechnika Opolska in the 6th series of Suzuki 1. Liga Men's matches. For the first time this season, Dziki had to admit the superiority of their rivals. The trip to Opole ended with the defeat of "Wataha" 54-70.
It was clear from the very beginning that it wouldn't be easy. The hosts played very aggressively in defense, mercilessly fouling. The Wild Ones, on the other hand, couldn't take advantage of the gifts from Opole - the Warsaw basketball players consistently missed free throws. The tough defense of Politechnika and 6 successful three-point shots allowed the hosts to build a large advantage by halftime. The first half ended with a score of 43-31.
It seemed that things couldn't get any worse. However, the third quarter dispelled all doubts. Instead of chasing the result, the Wildcats lost more points. "The Pack" played their worst 10 minutes of the season, during which they scored only 6 points.
The last part of the match was already a formality for the hosts. Coach Robert Skibniewski's basketball players carried out tactical recommendations and despite poor efficiency and many fouls, they maintained the lead until the end. The Wild Ones tried to make up for the losses, but the advantage of the Opole team was so large that winning the fourth quarter 17-11 was of no use. After forty minutes of play, the counter stopped at the result 70-54 .
It was the first defeat for the "Wataha" this season, but it's hard to win when you only hit 20 of 37 free throws.
We played a weak match. I think we needed it to realize that we can also play weakly - like today. The fact that we fought until the end is certainly a sign that we have to and will continue to work. We believe in ourselves, in our strength and we will fight for more victories in the next matches - commented the coach of Dzików, Krzysztof Szablowski after the match .
In the Wild Boars points were scored by:
- Grzegorz Grochowski 10 points.
- Rafał Komenda 9 pts. 5 rebounds.
- Michał Aleksandrowicz 9 pts. 6 rebounds.
- Alan Czujkowski 6 points.
- Antek Michalski 6 points.
- Max Motel 4 points
